Shree
Swami Satyanand Ji Maharaj, the founder of Shree Ram
Sharnam, was born in 1861 in Rawalpindi. He had lost his
parents in his early childhood. At the young age of 17, he
took up the company of spiritual teachers of Jain faith. In
1891, at the age of 30, he joined the Arya Samaj, and
studied Vedanta, Upanishads, and other sacred epics.
He spent the following 25 years giving spiritual talks and
spreading the spiritual teachings from the sacred epics.
During this period, he also wrote the following books;
Dayananda Prakash, Satya Updesh Mala, Onkar Upasna, Arya
Samajic Dharma, SandhyaYog, Ishwar Darshan, and Dayananda
Vachnamrit.
Lacking inner peace, in early 1925 he went to Dalhousie in
the Himalayas, to meditate in solitude to seek God. On July
7, 1925 the day of Vyas Purnima, Swamiji was blessed with
the sounds and inner vision of "Ram Naam", and
with the realization of his soul’s oneness with God. In
1928, he began initiating his followers with "Ram
Naam".
He
wrote additional books, namely, Bhakti Prakash, Valmikis
Ramayana-sar, Sri Bhagwat Gita, Akadashopnishad Sangrah,
Pravachan Piyush (Collection of Swami Ji's Lectures),
Prarthna Aur Uska Prabhav, Upasak Ka Anteric Jeevan, Bhakti
Aur Bhakt Ke Lakshan, Sthitpragya Ke Lakshan, Bhajan Avam
Dhavani Sangrah, and Amritvani. These volumes are published
by Shree Swami Satyanand Dharmarth Trust, New Delhi, and are
sold at price below cost. Swamiji has written these epics
through inner guidance gained in a state of samadhi. Of all
these wonderful books, AMRITVANI has uniquely become
universally popular because of its deep Spiritual Power. It
is presented in a small book and is widely recited because
of its unique power in invoking devotion to Ram.
Swami Ji did not start a separate Spiritual Path. He was a
God-realized Saint, like Sant Kabir, Guru Nanak, Samarth
Ramdas, Goswami Tulsidas, Sri Ramakrishan Paramhansa and
Maharishi Dayanand. Goal of his teaching was to intensify
devotion to God through concentration on "Ram
Naam".
Swami Ji initiated Sadhna Satsangs for serious devotees to
practice detachment, devotion, purity of body and mind, and
healthy living habits. The first Sadhna Satsang was held in
Haridwar, followed by many camps all over India. On November
13, 1960 while chanting "Ram Naam", Swamiji gave
up his physical body after transferring his Spiritual Powers
to his dear disciple Shree Prem Ji Maharaj, and designating
him as the one to replace him. Shree Swamiji’s body was
immersed in the Holy Ganges at Neel-Dhara near Haridwar,
which has since become a unique Holy Place for all Amritvani
devotees.

Shree
Prem Ji Maharaj, admired for his humility and complete
loyalty to Swami Satyanand Ji Maharaj, was born on October
2, 1920. He served in Delhi Central Government, and
simultaneously pursued service to others. He did not accept
any gifts or offerings, never let anyone touch his feet, and
did not take service from anyone. He taught others by his
example. He was quiet, sacrificing, and adhered to high
moral and spiritual principles. He was also an expert of
homeopathic medicine, which he liberally provided to all,
and effected the cure of serious diseases, both with
medicine and with his blessings.
Pujya Prem Ji Maharaj took upon his body the sufferings of
others, and consequently suffered a great deal toward the
end of his life. He expressed great strength of Soul and
radiated an aura of spiritual power. He established Shree
Ram Sharnam Ashram of Delhi, which is a popular center of
spiritual learning. In addition, he established centers of
spiritual study in several cities of India. Thus, he not
only continued the works of Shree Swami Satyanand Ji
Maharaj, but also spread them. After initiating thousands
with "Ram Naam", Pujya Prem Ji Maharaj left his
body on July 29, 1993

Born
on March 15, 1940 in Narowal District Sialkot (West
Pakistan), Pujya Vishwa Mitter Ji Maharaj received his early
education in Hissar, followed by Master’s and Doctor’s
degrees from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences
(AIIMS) in New Delhi. After 22 years’ service as an Ocular
Microbiologist at AIIMS, he took voluntary retirement.
Pujya Vishwa Mitter Ji Maharaj came to know Shree Prem Ji
Maharaj in 1964, at the young age of 24. Although he was
skeptical in the beginning about Gurus and Saints, Dr.
Vishwa Mitter Ji Maharaj quickly realized the unique
personality of Param Pujya Prem Ji Maharaj as that of a true
devotee of God with high ideals, who was spreading "Ram
Naam". He asked Param Pujya Prem Ji Maharaj to bless
him with "the ability to be a humble human being and to
serve humanity".
Maharaj Ji never married and achieved great professional
success as a leading Ocular Microbiologist in whole of Asia.
Yet he felt unfulfilled, until he renounced everything and
went to Manali, where he spent the next Six and Half years
in search of God. His intense Sadhna expanded his spiritual
understanding such that now he can easily speak at length on
various complex spiritual subjects.
At the loving request of the Trustees of Shri Satyanand Ji
Maharaj Dharmarth Trust, and other devotees, Pujya Vishwa
Mitter Ji Maharaj accepted the responsibility and moved to
Delhi. He became the Spiritual Successor of Param Pujya Prem
Ji Maharaj, and because of a unique expression in him of
spiritual and devotional qualities of both Shree Swami
Satyanand Ji Maharaj and Shree Prem Ji Maharaj, certain
devotees lovingly call him "three-in-one".
Pujya
Vishwa Mitter Ji Maharaj conveys much through a few words.
His scientific background enables him to convey spiritual
truths with a scientific perspective. He is indeed an
incarnation of humility and service to humanity. He does not
consider himself a Guru, but wants to be seen as a servant
of all. This lack of pride in his personal nature, in the
face of such achievements, attracts everyone to him.

GOD
sends an opportunity to taste the purest nectar of
spirituality...
In
this age of stark materialism, inner turmoil, tensions and
anxiety seem to have become integral to man's life. Further,
with the entire focus being on fulfilling his unending
consumerist needs and aspirations, man has become acutely
egocentric to the complete neglect of altruistic
duties.
The
basic cardinal values of selfless service, self-abnegation,
discipline and benign love are fast losing their relevance.
Instead, violence, hatred and envy have serious influence in
our lives. We have moved away from our quintessential
cultural heritage and the immanent godliness.
The
prayers rectify our aberrations through the 'maha-mantra' of
'RAM-NAAM '
Indeed
in these dire times, one can look upon the Ashrams and the
Satsangs therein founded by the venerable Swami Satyanandji
Maharaj as the fountainhead of righteousness, altruism,
inner calm and spiritual bliss. The Ashrams and the Satsangs
overwhelm and rectify our aberrations through the
'Maha-Mantra' of 'Ram-Naam'. Dissemination of spirituality
and love in this manner is efficacious and wholesome for the
Sadhaks and the society at large.
Imparts
valuable insight to lead responsible, disciplined and
dignified life...
Symbolising
a unique blend of rectitude, pure love and inner bliss, the
Ashrams and the Satsangs, though essentially spiritualistic
in character, also impart invaluable instructions on leading
a responsible, disciplined and dignified life. On entering
the portals of the Ashrams, one is at once struck by the
divinity in the ambience, which lends inner calm and
serenity driving away cares and anxieties in a sure though
invisible way.
Regrettably,
these days even spiritualism has been commercialized where
unethical pressures are used to bulldoze others.
Riches, affectations, social status and professionalism have
encroached upon the sacred world of spirituality. Activities
in most spiritual places consist only of cash and kind
donations, offerings, the practice of 'darshan' (patronizing
private audience), 'langar' (free community kitchen) besides
the acquisition of big mansions and real estate.
GURU
- the Spiritual Mentor acts as a bridge with the GOD...
It
is unfortunate that the common man gets bogged down in this
mess without making any distinctive spiritual progress. As
such, it is unfortunate though not surprising that people
often fail to locate genuine spiritual centers and capable
spiritual mentor - the guru.
Highlights
selfless service to humanity & spiritual enhancement
while performing routine duties...
Here
is then a godsend opportunity for those hapless souls who
have all this while yearned for a few drops of the nectar of
pure spirituality. The hallmark of the Satsangs initiated
and blessed by the venerable Swami Satyanandji Maharaj is
the complete absence of ostentation's and pretensions. Not
expected to make any offerings, the 'Sadhak' comes to the
Satsang with the sole objective of seeking inner peace and
higher spiritual attainments. And, surely, endowed and
blessed thus with everlasting ecstasy does he return to the
world again!
